The film is dedicated to Howard Ashman, the late co-producer and co-writer of the original film.

The Little Mermaid Plot :

Ariel, a mermaid princess and the youngest daughter of King Triton, longs to explore the human world. She collects human objects with her friends Flounder and Scuttle. One day, Ariel saves Prince Eric from a shipwreck and falls in love with him. After Triton finds out about her actions, she destroys his collection. Ursula, a sea witch and sister of Triton, offers Ariel a deal to temporarily become human. Ariel agrees, giving up her voice and tail. With the help of her friends, Ariel tries to get Eric to kiss her in three days, but Ursula interferes by using Ariel’s voice to charm Eric.

At an engagement party, Ariel reveals Ursula’s true identity and breaks the spell. However, the sunset transforms Ariel back into a mermaid. Ursula takes Triton’s trident and turns it to dust. Ariel’s love for Eric distracts Ursula and, in the chaos, she accidentally kills her own eels. Ursula grows to monstrous size, but Ariel impales her on a ship’s bowsprit, killing her. Triton revives and Ariel and Eric’s love is recognized by her parents.

Triton notices Ariel’s unhappiness without Eric and permanently transforms her into a human. Ariel and Eric decide to travel together, supported by their families and the people of their respective worlds.
