Black Panther Wakanda Forever Story :

T’Challa, the king of Wakanda, is dying of an unknown terminal illness. His sister, Shuri, believes that the “heart-shaped herb” can cure him, but she fails to recreate it in time before T’Challa’s death. A year later, Wakanda faces pressure from other nations to share their vibranium, and they are blamed for a vibranium-related incident involving a group of water-breathing superhumans led by Namor. Namor demands that Wakanda hand over the scientist responsible for a vibranium detector or face attack.

Shuri and Okoye, along with CIA agent Everett K. Ross, search for scientist Riri Williams, but are pursued by the FBI and Namor’s warriors. They manage to escape and confront Namor, who shows them his underwater kingdom of Talokan. Nakia joins forces with Shuri and Williams to escape, while Namor launches an attack on Wakanda, resulting in Ramonda’s death. The Wakandan citizens move in for safety and Shuri rebuilds the heart-shaped grass using a remnant of Namor’s people. She becomes the new Black Panther and seeks revenge on Namor.

Preparing for battle, Shuri and the Wakandans, with the help of Okoye and Williams, lure Namor and his warriors to the surface. Shuri catches Namor but has a vision of Ramonda, prompting her to offer a peaceful alliance. Namor accepts and the battle ends. Williams returns to MIT, Okoye rescues Ross, and Shuri secures the future of the Black Panther mantle by planting more heart-shaped herbs. In Shuri’s absence, M’Baku challenges for the throne. Shuri visits Nakia, where she learns of T’Challa and Nakia’s son, Toussaint, who reveals that his Wakandan name is also T’Challa.

In a mid-credits scene, Shuri discovers the existence of Nakia and T’Challa’s secret son, Toussaint, and his connection to Wakanda.

Production :

In the development phase of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, producer Kevin Feige expressed a desire to continue the character’s story after the success of the first film. He approached director Ryan Coogler about returning for the sequel, and negotiations were completed under the radar in the months after the first film was released. Letitia Wright, who played Shuri, and other cast members such as Angela Bassett, Michael B. Jordan, and Danai Gurira, expressed interest in reprising their roles.

However, in August 2020, Chadwick Boseman, who played T’Challa/Black Panther, passed away unexpectedly. Coogler and Marvel Studios were unaware of his illness, and his death posed a significant challenge to the production. It was decided that the character of T’Challa would not be recast out of respect for Boseman’s iconic portrayal.

Coogler went on to write the script, incorporating themes that honored Boseman’s legacy. The original version of the script explored T’Challa dealing with the aftermath of the Blip and his relationship with his son Toussaint. The film was also slated to feature Fontaine’s Namor and Valentina Allegra. However, the script underwent revisions to accommodate Boseman’s absence and the shock of his death.

Filming for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever began in June 2021 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. The production faced emotional challenges as the cast and crew mourned the loss of Boseman. The script went through multiple incarnations, with Michaela Coel and Isaach de Bankolé joining the cast in undisclosed roles. The film continued to explore feminist themes and introduced the Talokan underwater civilization, inspired by ancient Mayan culture.

The film’s title, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was revealed in May 2021, paying homage to the battle cry of Wakandans and representing the film’s themes of triumph through adversity and legacy. The release date was initially set for May 6, 2022, but was later moved to July 8, 2022.

Overall, the production of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever faced significant challenges due to the unexpected loss of Chadwick Boseman, but his goal was to honor his legacy and continue the story of Wakanda and his characters.
